Grand Final Winners 2020 - Rebels and Eagles Black

Updated: Jul 26, 2020

On March 14, 2020, the Peninsula Rebels faced off against the Pittwater Pythons in the Div 1R Grand Final. In a tense game full of high drama, with rain adding to the mix, the Peninsula Rebels managed to edge the contest 6-5 to win the Division Championship.

The Rebels were fortunate to be able to play the Grand Final. As the play-offs for the 2019-2020 season began, the COVID-19 Pandemic struck. Manly-Warringah Softball Association had to make the difficult decision to cancel the Grand Finals scheduled for March 21.

The Grand Final date for Div 1R, however, had been moved to March 14 because many of the U-14 players in the two final teams were scheduled to play in the Blacktown Junior International Competition (BJIC) on the weekend of March 21.

For the cancelled Grand Finals, rule 17.7 of the Manly-Warringah Rule Book was invoked. The rule stipulates that if any game in the final series is abandoned, then the team placed higher after the preliminary rounds is declared the winner of the game.

Under these rules, this meant that the Peninsula Eagles Black won the A Res Championship.

The winners of every grade have been published on the MWSA website

Congratulations to the winners and Peninsula and MWSA are sorry the runners-up did not get their chance to challenge for the title.
